The sending unit is basically a variable resistor\potentiometer\rheostat. Many names for the same thing. There are two wires coming from it - a black wire which grounds to the frame, and a yellow wire which goes up to the instrument cluster. It runs the length of the frame and goes in through the firewall, along with the tail lights, rear turn signals and reverse lights.
Since there is two posts on the gauge, do I need a ground to the gauge on one of the posts on the back along with the sending unit wire on the opposite post?
I thought one post of the gauge was for power and the other post was the sending unit wire. If no one else here can verify this, I'd try posting in the electrical forum because some guys over there have access to a lot of wiring diagrams. I can't remember if the gauge sources power from regular battery voltage, or the regulated instrument cluster voltage which is much lower.
