I'm sure that this has been answered about 20 times on here, but after searching I couldn't find the answer for a newer Expedition.
I'm really hoping that someone can help me out. I've got a 2006 Expedition Limited 4x4. It seems fine in 4HI and 4LO, but in 4AUTO the 4x4 light flashes. Where should I start looking for an issue? Anyone run into this?
The flashing indicates there is a problem with the drivetrain. Not sure what it could be. But if your still under warranty then take it back to the dealer for troubleshooting. There maybe codes already stored.
not sure if it is the same on a 2006, but when I had my '97 it was a sensor in the transfer case. I actually didn't even have to replace it, cleaning did the trick. I think there are two of the sensors that measure the speed difference between the front and rear wheels. I found the one on the rear pulled it out and it cleaned with a clean rag popped it back in and my awd started working again and the flashing light stopped. Hopefully your '06 will be just as easy (and cheap!) to fix - good luck!

Sadly at 66,000 miles I'm out of warranty and I hate to pay the dealer big $$$ to diagnose the problem.
