Question 3.0L Gone?

Did Ford kill the 3.0L Vulcan in the Ranger? When?

When they showed the 2.5L has more power and gets waaaay better gas mileage. The 3.0L no longer has a place among the trucks, it was in an awkward position where it lacked the power of the 4.0L, but did not get much better on the gas mileage. The people were either going for the power, or the economy, and bypassing an engine that was neither.

3.0... The power of a 4 cylender, and the gas mileage of the 4 liter. It dug it's own grave in the ranger lineup...

I'm not arguing that it needed to be replaced....I was just surprised is all. I've never been a fan of the 3.0L other than it seemed very durable. I don't much care for my 4.0L either but its better than the 3.Slow. 4.0 could very easily have come with more power and I think it needs it but the brass at Ford don't seem to agree.

08 was the last year for the 3.0 in the ranger. Sure they could get more power from the 4.0. the escape 3.0 went from 200 hp to 240 hp this year with vct and direct injection and what not.

The 4.0 (colonge) is a great engine and it really doesn't get poor mpg with decent driving habits. The power is there when you need it.

Ford pulled it for 09, too bad the Ranger didn't get the 2.5 like the Escape did.

But for a HP junkie like me the 207hp just isn't enough. My old 85 GT is over 350 hp and that isn't enough either. I wouldn't care at all if my cars never broker 120mph if they just get their really fast. I still think that the gearing in these trucks is all wrong. Why is it that with 4.10:1 rear gears that my truck can still run over 90mph in 3rd gear? I mean....I know its in the transmission gearing and that most of the time nobody tows much with these trucks but I shouldn't have to work the truck so hard just to pull 3,000lbs of extra weight. Need more torque and different trans gearing.

Shoulda seen the load I had on my 2000 F350 this weekend though. 24ft. flatbed gooseneck with 5 chords of oak firewood on it and drug it 80 miles back home. Sure was squatting and grunting.

Since when cant a ranger be a race truck wendell... I'm shocked :0

But they cant really use the escapes transmission in a ranger, a load would tear it up. plus, that 3.0 isn't a truck engine. it works better as a car engine. bad tourque & hp band for a truck
