The rear wheels on my vehicle seem to be frozen onto the hub. I have tried WD-40, a crow bar, light pounding with a hammer, even moving it with the lug nuts loosened. Nothing seems to work. Is there a tool that can help me remove these wheels? Or can I apply heat to the hub? Any help would be appreciated. Thank you.
This isn't the safest method, but it works for me. I've had to break loose stubborn rims before on my truck, break loose your lugnuts and take them half way off. then let your truck back down and put her in first and pop the clutch a little, if that doesn't work do it in reverse. If that still doesn't work, jack up your truck and let it down as fast as it will go, that works too. Remember, I said this wasn't the safest way, but it works.
There are various ways of doing it while on a lift (I assume this is an Explorer), I will give you a technique that might work in your driveway.
First off, use PB Blaster on the hub/rim connection, not WD40.
Loosen the lug nuts about 1/4 inch from the rim.
Jack the vehicle up until the wheel is just off the ground and put a jack stand securely UNDER THE FRAME!!!
Take a 2x4, put it on top of a block and place it on the back side of the rim. Hit the 2x4 with a sledge hammer. Avoid hitting the wheel weights, brake lines, etc.
If this does not work, lay on your back, hold unto the frame and kick the tire like you would kick a terrorist.
