I have a question for you guys. I have a 04 F350 SC, SB, SW with the camper overload leaf. My question is what the difference between the 250 and 350? both trucks have five main leafs and some have the overload spring. My uncle said that the 350 us stronger spring steel that makes them hold more. So is he right or is he just trying to hide ford con since he works for them?
From a business and manufacturing perspective, it woul;d be a whole lot cheaper to add an overload to carry the extra. They may have "sprung" the steel different, But I can't imagine the headache for twice the part numbers for F250 and f350. I have the f250 with the overload and it wasn't enough so I added Supersprings. I can haul 2 tons of feed in the back and squat 2-3 inches only. Empty ride if factory because they are a progressive rate spring.
I absolutely love em. I don't think a f-350 dual rear could comfortably carry as much.(less pitch and sway). I believe I paid like $269

i dont have dual rear wheels my 350 is a single wheel. I carrry 3300 pounds sometimes and make truck squats 3 or 4 inches so its not that bad really for stock but i dont know i guess its ok that way.
but i think your right about different part numbers because my buddy has a 2000 f-350 dually that he bought from his dad and just put a 8 inch skyjacker lift on it so he sold me his rear springs for 50 bucks. after getting them back to my shop there is no apparent differencr. all i can tell is that the overload spring is a lot stronger than my stock one so all i can come to is that the overload spring takes all the extra payload for the dually trucks.
The difference in F250/F350 is the overload spring only. It comes standard/stock on an F350 and is part of a "package" on the F250. If an F250 has the camper package, heavy suspension, plow package, then it has the overload spring and is the EXACT same as the F350. There is no difference in the steel; they are the same part.
By the way, I'm only talking about your 2004. Things changed a little in 2005 (however, the springs were still the same between the F250/F350).
The only difference between the 250 & 350 SRW rear suspensions from 1999-2004 is the size of the block between the axle & the spring. On an F-250 it is appx. 2 inches and on the F-350 it is about 4 inches. Some 250's came with the additional overload springs and some did not--depended on the options on the truck. I'm not sure if all 350's came with the overloads, but I would assume that they did. The leaf springs were the same on all 250 & 350 Single Rear Wheel trucks.
Check the Super Duty Tech Folder at the top of the forum--All the info is there.
Rongold is correct, on the SRW trucks 04 and older have the same springs on a 1 ton and 3/4 ton... part number and all. Just need them bigger blocks.
One thing to keep in mind, in 1999 thru 02 or 03, the 3/4 ton 4x4 had a dana 55 front end, and the the 1 tons had a dana 60. (i believe these are the correct numbers, someone needs to let me know if they are corect). My 04 3/4 has the same front axle as a 1 ton, but them rear blocks is dinkier.
The bigger block just allows the spring to flex more before it bottoms out, the more it flexes the stiffer it gets.
If you are going to carry weight most of the time, the 350 is the way to go. In 08 the GVW for the 350 is 11,500 lbs and for the 250 it is 10,800. Here in Pa, if you are overweight the fine is $1 per pound that you are over your GVW. My 08 F350 weighs in at 9520 lbs with all my tools and such. I went to Home Depot and bought 20 bags of concrete 80 lbs each for a weight of 1600 lbs. Total weght 11,120 lbs. So that would be over the limit of an F250 by 320 lbs. and a hefty fine. I have been pulled over once already and lucky for me I was not overweight. So go by the sticker on your door jamb, that is what the officer will look at and what your insurance company has you insured for.
So basically i was stupid for buying the 350 in the first place thinking it was going to hold a larger payload. So i got burnt on the price when i bought the truck pay more for insurance and registration and tags just for a stupid sticker that says 9900 gvw when the truck doesn't even have more payload. well I'm a hard core ford man but thanks a fing lot ford! Well what a a 04 dually, i just bought a set from my buddy and the only difference i see is that the overload spring is a lot stiffer than mine.
I hate my overloads. Since I always have weight in my truck, the overloads are always about an inch away from the stops and when I hit a bump they make a very annoying noise. I installed air bags to increase the space between the overloads and the stops and that has eliminated the noise somewhat. When I get a chance I will cut them off. My advice would be so skip the overloads and get air bags.

From 99 to 01 All srw came with 50s, from 01 on, all got 60s. All being both 3/4 and 1 ton.
Going back to Dualwheels66 post on the over load fines. Just remember if you are overloaded and you have some kinda accident your insurance company does NOT have to cover you. If you are over loaded and get a blow out and roll your truck and they find you were over your out of luck. Been down that road with a friend. Pulling a horse trailer f-350 drw about 2k over tow limit wich of course is nothing for the truck and well raining , yellow light hit the brakes slide through the intersetcion he t-boned this guy. State Farm said have a nice day your out of luck. Had to pay out of poket for everything. So yeah your getting 35$ blocks for the price of the package but hey later on down the road you might need that extra 1k or whatever.
