So I am hoping to finally have a truck soon as I have more funds to play with. My biggest problem is that I am in north Wyoming... not a lot of selection, especially when you are particular, and frugal. I find a lot of awesome projects when I walk alleys, but no '56 Ford pickups... couple '54s, but I'm patient and will wait for what I really want (not to say the 54s aren't awesome, because they are.)
I'm still waiting to get a few emails back, but hopefully I may finally have my truck. Still have to travel, probably a good 6 hours if I'm lucky... and borrow a truck and a trailer, ha, but here's to hoping!
I'll have pictures as things develop, the one I am looking at now is a long bed for about $1000, but there are a few others that could work if I can talk em down.
Just thought I'd share as I really missed the hunt when it was over on my last project!
Good luck, there should be some farm trucks up there that are in decent shape. But I'd still expect to pay good money for a good truck. They get the internet up there too!
Tacson found my 56 for me way over in Tennessee (14 hours from here). I was patient as well and looked at a lot of them first before this one came along.
Didn't want to clutter up your thread with pics...so it is a link.
They are not cheap. I paid more than I wanted, but it has saved me a fortune in the long run being patient, waiting, and buying one that was running and almost street legal.
This Truck looks like a pretty good deal with the rebuilt front axle and the hard to find overdrive transmission. I think the owner is a FTE member. It is a long bed F100 and that may be a detractor for some. You can usually find someone who is looking for a good 8' bed, and you can shorten up the frame or find a short frame. It even has the hard to find bird hood ornament.

Good luck in your pursuit of a 56. I would highly recommend finding/waiting on the best condition truck you can get. One that is running will be the best ticket. You wont get discouraged because you can drive it. Also when you close in one let us look at the pictures before you by. Sometimes you can be so eager and happy that you lose sight of potential issues down the road. Also not to highjack the post but a 04 and up CV IFS is to wide for a 53-56 Frame. Take care
I had several plans for the truck, currently I have time but not a great deal of funds for her. My plan was to strip the truck down, fix all the sheet metal, then switch it onto a doner 4x4 frame and drive train. It's a business truck and 4x4 is important, and I'll also need to tow a small trailer, hence the swap. I wanted to make it a fairly low 4x4, I'm a fan of the low stance and large wheels, needing a ladder to get in isn't really appealing to me, lol.
Since I can fix just about anything, my biggest need on this isn't even that big of one, but just having it complete for the most part. Meaning I'd rather not have just a cab then have to try to find fenders and a bed or something. but I'll definitely post some pictures once I have them (grr, once they get sent! lol). The one I am looking at the most I am sure is a bit beat up and needing glass and what not. But metal work is a blast for me
I got a picture back from a guy a bit south of me, though the message screwed up and only one picture got sent, but it's what I have right now.
Looks like a lot of work, but nothing I'm not expecting... or desiring to be honest. Well, having the heads on an engine and in the engine bay might be nice, lol
