I have a 1988 F250. I got the truck from my father in law who had the engine replaced. My father in law has had some health issues recently and as a result his info on the engine that was put in is shoddy at best. He's positive it is a Cleveland, but I can get no more useful info. I need to replace the spark plugs and valve cover gaskets badly. Luckily I know enough to not use the windsor engine spark plugs in a cleveland engine. Now for my question. How would I go about finding which engine it is that is in my truck? And also, when I do, how would I find out which type of vehicle it had been in so I know what to tell the people at the auto store? Thanks in advance for any help.
If you can post a pic of the engine it would be a big help identifying it. It may in fact be a 351 Cleveland but odds are higher it's a 351M. They look similar. 351C engines were only built for a few years and with the possible exception of Rancheros were never factory installed in trucks.
I agree that a picture is worth 1000 words in this case. Ford had long stopped installing 351C and 351M engines by 1988, so unless it's been modified, it should be a 351W. If it's EFI, it's almost certainly not a 351M or Cleveland.
I will try to post a picture tomorrow, it is indeed efi however. I had read that Ford stopped using Clevelands long before 88, but my father in law is adamant about it being one. So I'll work on getting that pic.
