My question is how do I remove the clips that hold the hose on the filter? Do I just break them out? when I tried to remove one with a screw driver it broke the end. Do I need a special tool? more patience?
dont break them..just pry / pull the "open" end of the clip down and off of the fuel line. Then Let the clip hang out of the way...You will then need a special tool to push into the filter on each end to release the line from the filter. It is a pain to change, but its another of Fords "better" ideas. Good luck
I agree, the filter is a PIA to change, but necessary. I change my fuel filter once a year. This time I cut it apart to observe the filter media color. The color was a dark brown and one of the filter pleats was bent in, meaning that the differential pressure across the filter was HIGH. The vehicle had about 20K since last fuel filter change. This is just a guess but I think the ethanol corrodes steel much faster which could come from various sources after the ethanol is blended in. My 99 has about 164K on it now and I have never had an injector issue. Maybe I'm just lucky on this point.
Yep, you need the stupid plastic special tool. It makes the job so much easier. Although, I must admit I did have some difficulty. Changed mine w/ appx 90k miles on vehicle.
Thanks for the help I will get the tool I have a gas line tool for my 350 but I dont see how it will work for this type unless after I get the clips out of the way then I use to push in towards the filter. thanks again.
