I have a 98 f150 4x4 sprcab it has 255/70r16 tires I want to install 265/75r16's this is the size chevy uses on z71 off raoders. The dealer i bought it at tells me this will cause my abs to stop working, I sure know i've seen a lot of trucks like mine with the bigger tires. If this will hurt abs can the computer be reset for this tire size any help would be appreciated thanx Ben T.
I have a 1997 F150 with the factory 16" wheels. I replaced the small stock General tires with the 265/75-16 Bridgestones when the truck had only 3,000 miles on it. I have never had brake problems. It sounds like your mechanic isn't much of a mechanic. Hope this helped!
I replaced the 245/75/16 tires on my 97 light duty f250 with 265/75/16 tires and the only problem I have is that my speedo seems to be out 3-4 mph at highway speeds... (resulting in what you might consider to be poorer fuel mileage if you don't remember to add in those extra miles that aren't showing up on your odometer). No brake problems though...

If you look in your Ford owners manual, it says to replace your tires with the exact same tire that was on it from the factory. EXACT meaning size and BRAND- I swear it says it in my 99 manual. Why? Fords agreement with the tire manufacturer makes them obligated to discourage buyers from buying other tires. I work at the BMW factory in S.C. and we put 3 or 4 different brands on the car and it still runs the same- imagine that. Put what you want on that truck! You know it wouldn't sound right if they said you could change the size but not the brand.
