Pretty sure my brother had an 89 GT. Ran like a sumbeech, too. He put over 200,000 miles on that car and it would still haul; it developed electrical gremlins later in life and his needs changed so he traded it.
The convertibles can develop misc. rattles etc.. as they were not designed to be a convertible, but are just a coupe with the roof cut off and some extra bracing here and there.
