I was a firm user waaaay back when cars/trucks did not have fan clutches.
now adays when you are at freeway speeds, unless you need TONS of cooling the clutch is letting the fan idle and not use the 10 HP that the fan sucks up at high RPM.
The only reasons I'd use one today are: the fan clutch broke and I can't afford to get a new one ( it is obsolete like on my son's '88 ranger), OR, I'm doing a whole bunch of idling on the freeway in Phoenix AZ during the summer and REALLY need that low rpm air movement.
OR your neighbor pisses you off and you need to wake him up with all that flex fan jet engine noise.
You might loose the clutch unit during the install generally and replace it with a solid spacer block. I understand the really expensive ones with all the chrome are direct fit.
Charging system will be fine, I tried one out for a while, it works great if you are just running around. However, towing anything, it won't keep up very well at all. Then once hot, it takes it a long time to catch back up. Atleast that is my experience.
