So on the way home tonight at a traffic light an older model chevy gasser tries to race me. I ease on the throttle and then give it about 3/4 throttle and I notice I don't have the throttle response or power like normal. Once we get to the 2nd light and stopped the truck feels like its stuttering and shaking. So of course I had to eat his dust as he tore off and I limped my way home.
The truck isn't showing any DTCs and was warmed up. Oil was just changed to Valvoline Premium Blue Extreme Synthetic 5w40. Racor filters are always used. Engine has about 12-15k miles on it. ARP studs. Not leaking any coolant. Oil temp was about 190. Boost appeared to be normal but I didn't give it much juice once I noticed the issue. MPG is a bit lower than normal (down about 2-3mpg). Outside temp is about 40* F.
Here's a video of what the exhaust sounds like when I parked. It gets more pronounced at 13-14 seconds.
Also I went back out and started the truck up after about 15 minutes. It would reproduce the same symptom and then stopped after I mashed the accelerator a few times. Then it came back.
Any help is greatly appreciated! Probably gunna stop by the dealership tomorrow and see what they have to say as well.
I would have thought that it would have thrown a code but it didnt. Crappy fuel could be an issue as I filled up about 100m ago with fuel from a station that I've never used before. They did have about 4 big truck diesel pumps though. Who knows. The problem is gone as of now. Just drove it around a few times for about 20-30 miles.
Now just have to catch that chevy at a light again and show em how it's done.
Mine did the same thing today. I just got it washed and was pulling into traffic. Hit the pedal and nothing, I gave it more and still nothing. Finally kicked in but it was a weird feeling. I filled up the tank and added cetane boost. My trip computer now shows I have 339 mile to mty on a full tank, it used to show 420. It also is saying 5-13 mpg when it used to show 15-21 mpg.
Is this a computer problem or engine problem? I will see if the cetane boost helps at all. Any suggestions?
You should still run a scanner on it because there could be codes in there even though a cel never came on.
Thanks, I have not had any problems since I added the cetane boost/fuel cleaner/anti gel. We did have a few nights below freezing and the truck sat for two days with close to mty tank. I will drain the fuel filter and see what I get out of there. Hope that is all it was...
Sorry, that's what I meant when I said "I would have thought that it would have thrown a code but it didnt." which meant I put my scanner on it and it didn't throw out any codes.
