diesel fuel

Ok as you will be able to tell, I own my first diesel, 08, 6.4. Question on diesel fuel. I live in Minnesota, with the cold temps, so when do I need to worry about putting in #1 diesel? Can you trust the stations that say they blend it? What ration do they blend it at? If I pull into a station that has #1, #2, at what ratio do I blend it now in relation to the colder temps? Would appreciate info on this, Thanks

Your best bet would be to check your local stations website.

All stations will blend their fuels to prevent gelling in the tanks, or else the fuel will not flow through the pumps. That is, of course, depending on the average temperature your area reaches (at 0 degrees fahrenheit, Diesel fuel normally gels to a non flowing substance).

Always be careful when blending fuel yourself. Too much lubricity will destroy your pump.

I live in Michigan (not quite as cold) I run diesel klein during the winter especially when my truck sits in the airport parking lot (really sucks when it's 40 when you leave and -5 when you get home and your truck rolls and won't run).

K-OS to much lubricity??? never heard of this.

Ok here is a link I found for you guys

FAQs — Questions, Answers, Diesel — Petro-Canada

You will clearly see that winter fuel has an additional lubricity additive.

Perhaps warmer climats don't use this additive at all?

Good link I had never heard of this before. I would assume that winter blends in the states use a similar additive in northern states.
