I wasn't sure what the right forum would be so I figured I go broad. While I'm havin fun huntin down info for me I thought I'd help my dad out with his issue. About five years ago he bought a '92 F-350 7.3L, it had just over 100k on it. Three days after he bought it the transmission went out. The seller agreed to put a rebuilt in. Now the truck has about 132k and the tranny went again, I'm pretty sure he said it was an E4OD. My question for you folks is exactly how many different transmissions/years will work in his truck? When i suggested that a 4spd from an early 6.9L or 7.3L would work he seemed open to the idea so feel free to include any manual trannys that would bolt up as well. Thanks for any help folks!
Any transmission that was behind a Ford/IH diesel will work. Since you have the E4OD now, you don't have to worry about any computer issues as that was the only one that was electronic. Any other tranny will work fine.
Autos: C6 is really the only other choice.
Manuals: Only T-19's and NP 435's were used from the factory, but you can also use a T-18 if you get a bell for it and the diesel.
Are all C-6's and E4OD's the same regardless of what engine they were mounted behind? Will a tranny from something older work if the one in it now is electronically controlled? I am mainly looking for years/models/engines that a transmission and clutch(if a manual is found) could be salvaged from.
BTW... it is a 4X4 Reg cab with a manual transfer case
