Front Drive Train Swap

My son has a 92 F150 4X4 that he wrecked prior to deploying to Iraq last September. He fell asleep at the wheel, jumped a ditch, went through a field and was stopped by a massive oak tree stump which was just tall enough to ruin nearly everything under the front of the truck. Estimate is around $3500 to fix it. I've got an 86 Bronco I've been using as a donor to restore my 83 Bronco. My question is, will the front Dana44-IFS swap into a 92 F150 w/Dana44-IFS? The 92 does not have ABS so that is not an issue. Thanks!

The front diff from the 86 has a 3.50 ratio. his 92 8.8 has a 3.54 or 3.55. The '86, believe it or not, has a 9-inch rear end with 3.50 as well. is this too much difference in ratio's? I guess we cud put the 9 in there, too!

i would put the 9" in there as well.

I put a 9" under my 88 bronco a few years back with a 3.50 ratio. the front was still the 3.54 and it was drivable but in the snow in 4wd it behaved weird some times. i didnt really like it. nothing bound up though. so just put both diffs in there and be done :-)

Yea, put both in the half ton but you will run into a problem because the 92 has to have the VSS in the rear diff for speedometer and the electronic transmission shifting. You could swap the gears from the 92 front end into the 86 front end and have the correct ratio. The 3.50 front end with the 3.55 rear end will not be an extremely noticeable difference but enough that the front end will always be going faster than the rear end wheels when in 4wd. Great for mudding bad for stability in some situations where a center differential is not employed.

hey may not need that. it sounds like the 92 doesnt have abs. what tranny do you have in the 92? the vss might be located in the Tcase for that year and the sensor on the rear diff is simply for RABS.
