My pasenger mirror has a history of dropping down..... get in the truck and I can see the rear tire in the large mirror section. I adjust it up and a week or so later it is staring at the rear tire again. Went through this 6-7 times and brought it to the dealers attention so they replaced the entire mirror assembly. Its still doing it though. Any ideas why?
I dont slam the door harder than any other truck I have had. Its not a result of washing it or bumping it. I have tried slamming the door and I cant duplicate the problem. Sometimes it happens in a couple of days, or it may go a couple weeks with no issue. I have never witnessed it dropping. Its just when I first get in the truck and I look over to see it. So its not a result of bumpy roads either. I know the dealer isnt going to be able to diagnose it by just looking at it so I am at a loss. Has anyone else had this problem with any year super duty?
Weird. maybe someone's screwing with you? You can push the mirror by hand, maybe someone walking past it every day at the same place? Or have you noticed it after sitting in different locations?
I don't think the mirrors move with the switch unless the key is in the ignition, do they?
The mirror switch is located far enough away that I couldnt accidentally bump it. I also make sure it is in the "neutral" spot so that even if it got bumped it "shouldnt" affect any settings. This only happens sitting in the driveway. I have never noticed it when using the truck for a few days in a row. But let it sit in the driveway for a week and bingo. I live in the country so it cant be a disgruntled neighbor and my kids are too small to reach that high. Amazingly it always drops the same amount. Its always facing the rear tire. Never more, never less, and never to the left or right. The dealer cant think of any reason it should move (neither can I) so they replaced the entire assembly hoping to fix it. Maybe its a pizzed off mail man with too much time on his hands. LOL I have had 3 other trucks all parked in the same exact location and never an issue like this. Im stumped.
Does the '08 HD have any presets for mirror and seats?
Hmmmm Indeed it does. Well it does for the seats at least, I am not sure if it also affects the mirrors. Thinking out loud - if this is happening because of a preset it would it matter if it sat for 1 hour or 1 week? It doesnt seem to do it if I drive the truck every day (I know, then just drive it every day, LOL) I havent found the consistent trend with this issue yet but you have definitely given me something to look at. If I find something I will be sure to post the results. Thanks!!!!!
I've seen it on 06-07 models so I wouldn't doubt it on an 08 model. We've got 4 F350 & F-450 rescue trucks (ambulances) ranging from 02-06 models where the side view mirrors will droop. Some of them also vibrate like the pegs that hold them in are loose. They should replace the mirror under warranty if it's not related to your memory preset.

Well, like anything computer-related, the presets have a memory location for each variable. Where the seat is, where the mirror is with X and Y coordinates, etc.
If one memory location is bad and losing it's stored value, that will make whatever that location controls go nuts.
I'd keep an eye on it, and before you put the key in the ignition, keep an eye on that mirror. Or however it determines who the person is - how does it figure out which preset to set everything to? Key? Hit a button number 1 through 5 or what?
You said you have memory seating, do you happen to be using 2 different sets of keys? The memory seating can be set to adjust itself depending on which keyless entry fob you use to unlock the doors. So if you have 2 sets of keys maybe the one set is putting it to the second memory setting, which has the mirror pointed down at the tire?
I guess the easiest thing to do would be to stand outside the truck and press the two seat memory buttons and watch the mirror to see if it aims itself downward. I suggest standing outside because if one of the memory positions is too far forward you can get smashed pretty good when the seat starts moving up (don't ask me how I know that).
