leaking oil
My 97 is leaking oil. It looks like its coming from the crank seal. I'm not sure though, the drips are coming off of the bellhousing close to where it's bolted to the block. The whole rear block, front of the tranny is dirty with oil.
Is this a normal problem? How hard of a fix? I take it I'll have to take off the tranny to get a 100% answer on where its coming from.

This is a normal question. Atleast here lately. The leak is more likely on the top of the motor in the valley. You will have to spray some cleaner in there and rinse with low pressure hot water and get it clean and dry then get up there with a small bright flashlight and a small mirror. Alot of the times it is the turbo or pedestal o-rings. I had a leak on one of the head plug o-rings. It can come from the plug on the back of the head also. I bet most of the oil is on the passenger side of the rear of the block? All fluids from the top drain down passenger rear of block.
