When it doesn't start what does it do? Click? Turn slow? Nothing?

If it does drop below 8 it's the battery, either it's got a drain or is no good. If not it's the connections, cables, between the starter and battery.

To check for a drain on the battery turn everything off and remove one of the battery cables from the battery, it doesn't matter witch. Take an automotive lightbulb and connect it between the battery post and the cable, Does it glow the brighter it glows the bigger the drain.

The battery should reed 12.6 volts after the truck has sat for a while. if it's lower the battery is not fully charged.

While running the voltage at the battery should be between 13.5 and 14.5 if below 13.5 the battery isn't charging while the truck is running. If above 14.5 it might be cooking the battery.

If you have a draw on the battey a good way to find it is to leave the light buld in place and on. Then pull fuses and relays until it goes out.

If you decide to replace the battery I highly recommend the optima red top there about twice as expensive as a normal battery but VERY worth it. I run them in everything and have never had one fail. Mine have never left me stranded, in situations that a normal battery would have.

It's always good practice to keep the battery clean, the juice can drain across the posts in the grease on top of the battery. Buy one of those 99 cent battery terminal cleaners and use it often.

Good Luck
