Hi all my neighbor moved and game me a 351w long-block and i never really thought about putting it in my 67 mustang. i know that the motor will fit but will all of my accessory brackets fit over from my 289? and will i have any other issues that i should know about or have to plan for now?
You will have two fitting issues, and a few accessory issues.
Before you make it fit, you will have to find a distributor, intake manifold and alternator bracketry as well as p/s pump and a/c compressor bracketry if the car is equipped with these accessories. Any small ford heads will fit the engine.
Then to fit the completed engine into the car, the two issues will be hood clearance and if your car has a manual transmission there will be no boss on the side of the block for the clutch linkage pivot.
On the clutch linkage pivot I have been told that the boss is cast into the block, but will have to be drilled and tapped. I also have been shown a link on a Bronco site for a very inexpensive little bracket that can be bolted on the engine to provide this.
well i got a better solution to my problem of preserving my 289 i found someone that wants to trade me my 351 ho for a 302 HO roller block. Now i know that there are some slight differences what am i looking at as far as this. i know to change the distributor gear and i need to find a 3 groove crank pulley with four holes. is there anything else i need to know?
