Hi, help, help, help,
I purchase a 2004 Ford Explorer used, I've had it for almost 2 years without problems. My air works fine, but when I turn towards the red/heat for warm air on even to defrost or anything, it immediately starts to make this ticking sound, and no heat whatsoever is coming out, when I turn it back to the blue/cooler side, it (the ticking) stops. Just wondering if this is gonna be very costly or am I looking at something minor and affordable because I am oh so not prepared. Thanks anyone.
Sounds like a blend door issue. There are many posts on this, used to be a sticky at the beginning of the forum. The ticking is most likely the motor that moves the blend door. Mine ticks when I turn it all the way to hot, just a smidge to the cool side and it stops ticking.
I agree with the blend door motor. I had the same symptoms on the rear unit on mine. What you hear is the plastic gears jumping teeth when they are trying to move.
