Rear leaf spring question

[updated:LAST EDITED ON 18-Dec-02 AT 11:21 AM (EST)]I need some help here. I've got a 68 Ranger and I think the springs are shot. I have new shocks all around and the box still wiggles all over with very little pressure. I was looking at the leaf springs and noticed that the shortest one (closest to the axle) is not in line with the others. It is offset about 15 degrees, like it pivoted slightly right under the axle. Is this normal, and, if not, would it be causing the suspension to be very mushy?

Thanks!

Rear leaf spring question

Leaf spring shift is fairly normal, I think every truck I have had with leaf springs has had a shifted spring at one time or another. As long as its not shifted real bad, I wouldnt worry about it. There are spring clamps that bolt accross the top, if you have any reason to have your spring packs disassembled in the future, you can have these clamps put on and they help some to keep the leaves from shifting. I had that done on the Bronco. As for the other problem, check your spring eye bushings, they may be worn out. If you have a sway bar back there, you can check those bushings as well. Usually if the leafsprings are really worn out, they will sag, usually one side will sag more than the other.
