So my kid came home from Basic Training, and off we went to buy him a new vehicle. He bought a Ford Ranger, FX4 and while the paperwork was all getting done up and approved, I saw a 2009 F150 XLT Scab sitting out the door. Got to talking to the salesman and he said "no test drives" until they get some more in. I told him I would go buy the Ranger at XXXX, so he goes and talks to the GM. 5 minutes later, I'm in the drivers seat.
I like the B-Pillar being farther back, and the new bodystyle. Not a fan of the black dash on the XLT, and it rides just like my 08. The 6sp xmsn shifts nice and smooth, but didn't know what gear to use when I floored it while it was in 5th. My 08 will do that sometimes also, so it may have been a fluke.
Nice truck, but I'll keep my 08 until the frame falls apart.
Glad you got to test drive one. I want to, but I doubt that'll ever happen. I did see one in person a while back (made a thread about it too) and actually saw a navy blue or black XLT driving here in Alabama. It was sweeeeeeeeeeeeeeet. I want to say I like it more than then the '08s but I don't know if I do haha.
Our dealer has one in. It a 4X2 XL, bare bones. Nice looking truck. They offered to let me drive it, but I figured that would just make me want to trade.

Some dealers are pompous a holes. The attitude like he is doing you a favor by letting you drive the truck.

Lol this has never made sense to me. They sell car/trucks and then dont want to let you drive one to test drive it. Ok then i wont buy it. Same happend here with a 08 i was looking at. It was a KR and they didnt want to let me test drive it. They said that it's had a lot of interest so they didnt want to let people drive it. Last time i drove past it was still there and that was over 4 months ago i asked to test drive it.

Why would they NOT want people to test drive it? I bet he was pissed when you threatened to go buy the Ranger elsewhere.
What was it even there for?? Maybe you wanted buy it for all he knew.
I have never heard of this practice before...not letting a customer take a test drive??? Wonder if that is a dealer thing...or if it is coming from above at FORD? Either way...sounds silly to me. Lots of folks do buy on impulse!

biz
sometimes this is done when the truck has already been purchased, and with the 09s being hard to come by they don't want anything to happen to it.
if it is already on the lot it was already sold before it got there, dealers are not receiving stock orders yet.
Then as a salesmen you tell the customer that. I am sorry sir, this vehicle is already sold and waiting to be picked up. I will gladly call you when we get some more trucks on the lot.
