Engine and Transmission Updates
Bought 150 - 5.4 two wheel drive new in 04 and updated to 08 a couple months ago, question to you guys is did Ford make any modifications in the engine or tranny in those model years ? Driving the new one the 5.4 seems to breath a little better and tranny seems a little softer in the shift. Has 3000 miles on it so not started to break in yet , but according to computer it's doing better MPG than the old one. Thanks.

I think the 08s got the 5 speed, but maybe that's only the 09s will have it. But that will help FE a little. I know they changed the exhaust tuning, so it flows better. The stock 04 is the most restrictive of all the 04-08 F150s. And like WheelMa1 mentioned, improvements in the calibrations. They've had several years to tweak the PCM
