5.9s were solid till the end, but for swaps the 12v is supposed to be alot easier.

I seen that add when the guy posted it the first time and told my dad about it, would be perfect for his cummins swap into his 91.

I dont have a truck to swap into yet!

Ive always thought a diesel (cummins, IH, whatever!) would be very cool in a reg cab shortbox!

I do think that might be beyond my level of a project right now though. I would need to beef up everything in the front end, probably the frame too, and my little mig cant weld that much.

Cool Idea though, nice to see im not the only one that has ever thought of it!

i'm always thinking of a 6.0 PSD in a regular cab/shortbox, but 97-03 style... like you say, extensive work to the front end would be needed to hold the extra weight. the frame should be fine, but the suspension would need major reworking!!

Ive actually thought of that too. Get a 6 liter all done up (and head studded!!) and throw it in a light truck.

Do some work to beef the suspension up, and figure out a way to get some traction, and that would be one fast truck!

Not sure if a cummins would be faster or not, but I know the 6 liter can be quick.

anything can be faster with enough cash... i would venture to say the v8 design offers more options then the I6, but what do i know??

Yeah, not too sure on that. The v8 design might be better for speed, i6 better for working.

Im not really sure on that though, would be nice to get two stock trucks, and race em myself and see!

The older ones got about double the milleage as the newwer ones 24v.
Cummings are wayyy to heavy for a 2wd swap in.

Mileage wise, you bet the older ones are better. Downfall is they dont have as much power. They also dont have the electronics to deal with, which is kinda nice.

Now as for being heavy, you could always make the front end heavy enough, get some suspension from a 4 wheel drive and fit it in there.

Its not impossible, but it would take alot of work.

If a guy wanted to do that, it would almost be worth it to get a 4x4 truck, take the box off, and cut the frame down, if you wanted a short frame.

If i was gonna do that it would be for something different then a early 90's half ton though, gotta make all that work go under something really cool!

The Cummins are easy and cheap to beef up. You can make the old 12v go fast as the new ones.

Ya can eh? I have always heard they are easy to make into a monster, and cheap.

Always thought the 24v could be built up a little more monstrous though.
