I have had this truck for 15 yrs, and every year it gets harder to turn the key to start position in cold weather, anything under 50 f. and you have a hard time, 30 and 40 degrees almost impossible, good thing I live in Texas, don't get that cold here very often. Any ideas what to look for?
The key itself is actually harder to turn in the ignition cylinder?
Chances are the ignition switch, mounted on top of the steering column, near the firewall, has gotten gummed up with age and could use a cleaning or replacement. Another possibility is that over time it's drifted slightly down the column on it's adjustable bolts and the actuator rod isn't quite in the right position to make the best use of leverage.
The actuator rod and upper assembly could also be going south, which isn't uncommon, but I'd look more towards the switch being gunked up or out of place, or the ignition cylinder being gooped up.
