Well new to me anyway. Its a 96 4x4 extended cab long bed. It is red with silver stripe, grey interior, and a 5 speed. I have a few questions. One is it has a exhaust leak. Sounds like in front of my feet somewhere. Are these trucks prone to exhaust leaks somewhere up there. Also would that adversely effect fuel mileage. I was pretty disappointed in the mileage on the drive back, pulling my jeep cj7. I drove my jeep up, bought the truck, and pulled the jeep back. All told I weighed 10,650 lbs, drove 63 mph the whole way, and got 13.6 miles per gallon. I was expecting about 16 or so. What do you guys think? The rpms were right at about 22-2300. It was also about a 4 hour drive one way.
Yep it sure will. If the leak is pre-turbo, I suspect it is, you are losing boost which means your are losing power.
It may be a PITA to repair but worth it in the long run.
You may want to re-seal as much as possiblewhen you get it apart, including
turbo pedestal o rings if it has to come off.
Look behind the engine on the fire wall for black soot, the leak should be easy to spot from there.
I bet it is the uppipes that are leaking.
It also sounds like you have 4.10 gears in it. That will also affect mileage. Plan on 16-20 mpg on a sound truck.
Every thing else is real nice. No white smoke, even when I fired it up cold i didn't see any smoke. Seems to shut off harsh though, it squeals just for split second like the cummins always do, and shakes the whole truck pretty good. I am sure I will have plenty of questions as time goes on. 5 speed shifts real smooth too. I do have to put the pedal to the floor though. I hear that could be just an oring or bushing or something.
Do you know if the truck is stock? 13 MPG might not be bad pulling especially with the mountains around here. Lots of little things you can do (cheap) to get better performance. That exhaust leak might be the EBP valve closing as it sounds like a hiss down by your feet. Most of us just unplug it as it is not needed in this climate.

You have a dual mass flywheel on it's way south. That's the first symptom
of a new clutch in your future It will only get worse and eventually fail.
Search this forum for a single mass flywheel or click one of the site sponsors on this page, carolina clutch ec t.
Rubberduck will give you more info on this. He gets a pretty good deals on clutches.
The pedal going to the floor is a bad bushing under the dash on the clutch pedal.
The replacement bushing will not last.
There is a permanent fix for this. I need to look it up for you.
