Tires And Gears

I'm Putting 41" Super Swampers And Dana 60 W/ 4.10 Gears In An 89 W/ A 460 And 3 Speed Auto. It's A 50/50 Truck Between On And Off Road. What Should I Expect For Pullin, power, acceleration, And Top End With This Setup. I Know I Should Go Lower But $$$ Stipulates I Play With The Toys I've Got For A Little While Before I Upgrade.

Not sure how to exactly answer this. It will be sluggish. I personally prefer 4.10s with 36s, 3.73s with 33s, etc. I like them a little more highway friendly than most, but your gearing is going to be too tall for much use. Could be a good wheel speed ratio in low range, though.

with a 460 you could scrape by with 4.56 but I would be looking into 4.88s
41s with 4.10s is going to suck even with a 460

I would look for a set of smaller tires, for the time being, until you can get those gears...
Your truck will be sluggish at best.

Go for it. ^_^ Whats the WORST that could happen? (Thats retoricle.)

I havn't personally experienced gears vs tires. But i'm going to use my 37's with my 4.10's.

Oh just remember, the taller you go,,the more parts will have to be changed and or altered. Drivelines, upgraded brakes,STEERING....just to name a few.

i disagree with everyone here. i ran that exact combo and while it wasnt a dragster the 460 really pulled its own weight (pun intended). any pics you see in my gallery of my white truck is an example of that scenario. your best bet is to run 4 wheel low in 2nd gear. one good thing about this setup if you are using this truck for on and offroad duties it will have better street manners.

i say try it first and if its too sluggish for you then upgrade.

A couple of my buddies used that combo for years and it worked well for them... wheel the truck in low range and shove it to the rug..

I agree. That'd be good for on and off road. You'd have good gearing for the highway, plus you always have low range if you don't feel like touching the gas going through some ruts and rocks.
