new leafs

The front springs are Spicer one-ton units from rockauto.com, and the rear springs are 2800# ¾-ton units (from a local spring shop) with the lift blocks left out. Right now, the truck sits dead-nuts level...I might fab up some 1" blocks (since I don't think the aftermarket makes one that "short") so that the truck sits level with a loaded trailer on the hitch.
And as I always say...no making fun of the rust...it's the only thing holding the truck together...

1 ton springs
or exact replacement of what i have, but with overload springs. Id use junkyard overload brackets and use 1 leaf per side from my old springs and install em that way.
I like the second idea better cause id be the only F150 to my knowledge to run overloads.

how does the rearend ride with the 2800# springs?
i wont make fun of youre rust, cause ive got some too lol.
people say my truck looks ugly cause of it, well i just tell em "ugly trucks dont break down"

. Everything I've read regarding engine weights says a small block weighs about 50 lbs more than a 300, but I'm betting that with all the accessories and fluids, it's probably a dead heat. Even if the 300 IS 50 lbs lighter, I don't think that's enough to make a significantly measurable difference in ride height. And I'm not sure which springs I got...all I can tell you is that they're Spicer p/n 5871124.12engine...the ride is, um....rough! You know where every concrete expansion joint is on the four-lane...and back roads can be more than a little bumpy, too. But I'm in the process of building this truck to be a towin' fool, so I expected a couple tradeoffs with the HD springs. I like your idea regarding the overload spring...I've even seen one or two 150s with overloads. I bet a resourceful fella could make a pair of overload bumpers out of a couple short pieces of angle iron and some chunks of old tire. Definitely like the overload spring idea a lot better than my original idea of making a 1" lift block.
And as I always say to someone who might hack on my truck: trucks and tractors don't hafta look pretty, they just hafta WORK!
