I finally got it, but couldn't save it because I haven't sprung for the $10.00 yet.
It involved as many rollers on each side as would fit within the box with neutral rollers in the middle.
Then struts at an angle that drove the powered rollers against the wall and the whole thing climbed up.
you can also put rollers on either side of a wooden branch (as long as you can go) with the ball on the end and drive the rod up to the goal. You hav to support the rollers within a box also. The simplest one is with 2 wheels in a triangle shape with the ball in the middle. You have to get the traingle just right though!

That is what I ended up doing but with five rollers on each side for redunancy.
I finally solved big ball too.
