Tuners and chips

I was looking at SCT tuners but the also show some type of chip.

What is the differance between the two???
Also if I add either of these to my truck do I need to change the exhaust and intake ? I have a 06' F-250 Lariat w/ all the good options(factory) 6L diesel.
