Question removal of tranny fill plug

I have a 1997 F-350
Im having trouble getting the fill plug out of the side of my 5 speed manual tranny. I looks like it has some kind of a slot in the middle of it but I can't get it to turn. Am i not holding my mouth right or what? I can't figure out what i need to do to turn this thing. I don't want to pull the shifter so any help would be greatly appriciated. Thanks for your help

It should just come out. Use a 1/2" ratchet and an extension. Soak with PB blaster first and let it soak then give it a shot.

If you are going to fill the manual tranny, just unscrew the boot and the shifter plate in the top and pour the measured amount of fluid in there. Easier-all straight down pour.
Doesn't take but a minute to unscrew the boot and cover.
