This weekend I started my truck. It turned over but continued to turn over.... while it was running. I couldn't turn the truck off. It continued to start while it was running until the battery died. Hooked up jumper cables and truck immediately attempted (weak) to start as soon as I clamped the positive jumper cable to the terminal of the dead battery. Not sure if this is a starter or solenoid problem. Has anyone heard of this type of problem? I appreciate anyones input.
When it does it again, pull the small red/blue wire off the solenoid. Scope this wire out so you can quickly lift the hood and reach for it.
If pulling this wire off does not stop it, then your solenoid is sticking. I would buy another from the Ford dealer.
If pulling this wire stops it from cranking, then the start circuit is getting power from somewhere it should not be. A place to look is the wiring to the side of the tranny. This is where the neutral start circuit is, which is where the red/blue comes from on the solenoid. Sometimes the wire will get damaged, and the back-up light circuit voltage will feed over to the start circuit wire.
