I recently installed a Western plow on my truck, and now I am experiencing headlight issues. They randomly will not come on... sometimes the passengers side will work, sometimes neither will work. I have to turn the lights off then back on sometimes one time sometimes more than one time. After they work I have no problems at all. A member on a plowing forum suggested that I need the truck "re-flashed" because some job one trucks had issues with the lights.
1) How do I know if my truck is a job one?
2) Anyone have any insight into the light issue? Is there a service bulletin?
Holy bajeesus - a reflash for headlight issues? Now I've seen everything
Actually not. All the manufacturers have had big trouble with plow gear and lights since the new electrical standards took effect. For the first year, it was nearly impossible to get a plow light tower to work on the new Dodge platform.
To Ford's credit, they learned pretty fast and fixed this in the PCM on plow prepped vehicles, and came up with the TSB for the rest.
The other flash is pretty handy too, since the HVAC thinks it's really hot outside with the plow on and turns on the AC, it tends to get a bit chilly.......
Go to the dealer and have them do the above-listed flashes for plow lights and for the HVAC (if so equipped). We are all assuming you have an '08, in which case there is another flash for regen and the venturi kit install.
Dropping off truck tonight... When I called the dealer we was claiming ignorance on any TSB... Already saying if it is realted to the snow plow I would have to pay...

Make sure to print out a copy of the TSB to take with you to the dealer (that way they can't give you the runaround about not finding it).
As long as your truck was built within the timeframe listed on the TSB and your truck is still within the standard warranty period then they can't charge you for doing it.

Well this is were I may not have a leg to stand on... The sticker on the drivers b-pillar has 5/07 on it. The TSB says trucks built prior to 4/17. Now if the sticker is right I am 1 month off... I would be happy if they at least attempted to do what the TSB says, then at least I can eliminate the truck as being the problem, and go to the plow manufacture for a fix...
So I dropped the truck off last night... I had 6 items that needed to be dealt with:
1) Drivers side door and extended cab door hit if I don't slam the extended cab door. Gave me no problems on that one
2) The headlight issue... balked on this one, so I don't know what is going on with that
3) I have a rattle underneath, didn't say much about this one
4) When I put it in 4x4, I get some sort of squeal underneath the truck. Said I have to let the truck break in.. give it till 5000 miles...
5) The low fuel light came on with a 1/4 tamk of gas twice this week... when I filled it it up it only took 21 gallons... Gave me the 5000 miles story again
6) I think the instrument panel lights are dim... he looked at it and said that is the way they are...
