Since they are available to me now (its down the street from my house) i want to use them on my stroker build. I hear the 185cc heads are great on a 351, but what about a 408? this is going into my 1981 f150 replacing a 302, i planned dual exhaust with 3-way cats to keep it legal. My question is how big would suit my low rpm 408? 185 or the 205? heat crossover is optional, i passed with flying colors without the egr on the 302.
The 185's will produce a nice broad powerband on a 351 but the 205's are probably better suited to 408 stroker....assuming you want the motor to produce all it's potential HP. You say all these heads are available with EGR?
more like a low end torquer for pulling and it may bump up to a 427 stroker (found on on craigslist, gonna check it out this weekend)
i thought they were optional on all. The 165 and 185 are street heads with EGR, and the 205-225 are race heads that arent drilled for it. to me the only difference is a raised exhaust port and a filled crossover other than the bigger runners.
Keith craft makes 408 strokers with a custom cam and AFR 185's that produce over 500hp/tq. They have dyno charts posted on their website. On the econo 408 engine they offer makes 485 pounds of torque at 3200rpm and a peak of over 500tq. Just saying it can be done with the AFR 185's
