I still am a skeptic but have witnessed water pipe, electric conduit, sewer pipe, etc. found usiong this method. And it soesn't even have to be copper or wood. I've seen a guy do it with steel tie wire. I think I dont like to believe it because I don;t understand how it works.
It has to do with the void that is caused by the pipes, conduit, etc. and how the magnetism flows from the earth, around the voids, through your body and into the rods.
dowsing rods, and the dowser, aint magnetic (and even if it did work, they would locate automobiles anywhere within 100 yards - how do you thnk BK knows you are at the drivethru)
I cry BS. Come show me. I'll give $100 to anyone that can douse my irrigation, gas, or electric lines.
On Edit: and don't go by the engineer's office first cause if you do, they'll tell me.
+1. I have a friend that is a retired used car dealer. He uses a bent car radio antenna(who would have guessed) for dowsing. He was giving a demonstration one day, and he walked across the shop floor. He didn't have his glasses on, and as he came upon an electrical extension cord running across the door, the antenna did a 90 degree. He said, yep, there is your water. We asked, where? He said, right there in that hose. We informed him that was not a hose, but an extension cord, and he still defended his work by saying there was water under the concrete.
I've watched my uncle take a y-shaped branch, he prefers hickory or cherry, bend the branches of the y in his hands with the extension sticking srtaight out, then go walking around the farm. He'll come to a spot where, despite his best efforts, he cannot prevent the stick from turning downward. Dig there - there's always water. Dig anywhere else, you come up dry. But only some people in the family can do it. His father could, but I can't.
I did this when I was about 11 years old, helping my dad and his friend find a good spot for a well at our friends new house he built. The branch was fresh-cut and green.
I was shocked! I couldn't believe it! I thought my dad was playing a trick on me until I actually saw the stick bend and point straight at the ground. He handed it to me and I could not keep the stick pointed up no matter how hard I tried.
I don't remember where I got the deminsions for the copper rods, or what I was looking for, I was really just playing around.
The drain that I went over was a 36" concrete drain going under the road and to the back of my property.
Herman the next time I'm in your neighborhood I'll be glad to stop by and give you a demo. As you are some 850 miles away I might not make it this weekend.
My ex-brother in law found the water lines running from the wells on my property using two pieces of stiff wire (like from a coat hanger) it was wierd to see but he was dead on--even found on old line running from the pond to nothing(it was just capped and buried)
the guy that dug my fathers well in 1970 witched every well he dug, when he witched my fathers 5 acres he found 2 underground rivers, he told my father one was at 360 feet and the other was like 800 feet. the well was dug where they crossed, at 365 feet the bit on the rig dropped about 10 feet and there was enough water current to wash away the mud instantly. they never drilled to the second river.
I have tried to witch and can't do it but my mother is good at it and my father can do it.
I'll up the odds. My offer is this: $1000 to the sucessful dowser; however, if the well driller doesn't hit sufficient water within 500 feet of depth, you pay for the dry hole.
Now don't forget to look at the topo map before you take up the challenge, I'm on a high ridge above a flood plain.
i used to think this was hogwash!!!!!!!! until i tried it using two coat hangers bent into "L"'s could not believe that it actually worked but it sure does for me, well finding water lines and septic tanks
