I have a problem, months ago i broke OD (overdrive) switch by mistake but before that the OD has or had been working just fine, I had a bit of trouble engaging 4x4 to hi or low, but most of the fine worked just fine. Now I have 3 wires hanging out (white, green and purple), everything runs normal I just can't turn the OD on.
However since I never actually bothered testing the 4x4, I went out to the river, and got stuck on mud (I didn't notice the mud it was dry on the top) So I tried to engage and it did not engaged at all. I though maybe if I move the OD CABLES it might turn, and so it DID!! Finally I came out, I switched back to 4AWD and it did disengaged, I tried to replicate and it did work so we left, this morning I tried again and it worked again by jerking the OD CABLES, but it doesn't work all the time.
We moving to utah, and I need to have 4x4 working and the OD, because we are going to tow my wifes vehicle. My question, do I need to have the OD fixed in order for the 4x4 to engage or not?
As for 4x4, at first I wanted to say it sounds like your transfer case motor is going out, and i still want to say that may be it. But your other symptoms make me wonder.
