Coolant Filter install ?'s

I was going to put my coolant filter kit on my 6.0 tomorrow and had a couple questions. First, would it be easier to take the intercooler tube off in order to get to the water hose back by the oil filler tube or is that not necessary. Second, can I just drain some of the coolant out of the system first before cutting that hose so that I don't have any coolant loss? I have heard that some guys just have someone else there to hold the hose up after they cut it and don't lose much but I don't think I will have anyone else around that can help. Any help is great. Thanks.

Yes, taking the intercooler hose off makes it a lot easier.

If the truck is cold (sitting overnight) there will be very little leakage.

I installed the filter housing, filter and bracket first. I then ran the hoses from the filter housing to their respective connection points.
If you have a two pair of vise grips or C-clamps, you can pinch off the heater hose each side of the cut. Insert the "T" connector and hose to the filter, release the clamping and install your hose clamps. Do this for both connection points. Over all you might loose 1/4 cup of coolant.

Good luck

I just did mine last week, I didn't lose hardly any at all. My truck is parked on a slight grade though, so I assume that it drained towards the back of the engine over night. I took the intercooler pipe off, made it super easy to do.

I didn't remove the pipe or drain coolant and had no problems. As stated above, have everything else done 1st so that your coolant splice is the only thing left to do.
