When you say hole in the block, are you actually looking at the pump?

Gotta say it sounds like you need a new water pump. The pump has a weep hole, when the seal/bearing goes bad fluid leaks out the hole.

Grab the fan and see if you can move it, play in the shaft, the tension on it from the fan belt will work against you. If you feel a little play remove the belt and check again, you'll probably find it has a lot of play with it off. Keep in mind the pump can still be bad, leak with little to no play in the shaft.

Last 300 6 I worked on was the 81 f-260 I had so I don't recall the exact position of the weep hole, but if the coolant is coming out of that hole and that hole is in the pump housing (looks like it is in the picture) then you need a new water pump.

Did you check for play in the shaft while you where out there?

Oh no don't "spin" the fan, grab say a blade sticking straight up, try to move it toward the front then rear of the truck off its rotational plane. Like I said the fan belt will work against you, the belt can and does tend to make it feel like it's "good" as in no play in the pump bearings.

No a pump is not hard to change, mostly depends on how nice the bolts come out for ya. Some go all the way through to the water jacket. Sometimes them can be a pain, even try and snap on ya.
Alternator pivot bolts can fight ya to, really depends on if its ever been off before and how long ago that was.
I've had some of the rustiest motors I ever seen come apart like a dream, had motors so clean you could eat off em fight me every step of the way. No way to know until your into it.
