Tailgate Matching Years

I need to get a new tailgate for my 92 F250. What year models are the same and will fit my truck? Thanks.

'97 f250 must be the heavy duty f250, not the light duty f250 which looks like a '97 f150.

they all look the same unless u get 1 with the aluminum trim, 87-91 has a red stripe with ford on it and 92-96 has a black stripe with ford on it

Right. AND the "FORD" lettering is written in a different script on the '87 - '91 than on the '92 - '96 version.

I believe that the 92-96 Ford script is a sticker on the XL model, whereas the Ford script on the 87-91 is stamped in.

McLeod is right. I have the stamped FORD tailgate on my '87, and am looking to replace mine with the same, but around here in the southern portion of the Rust Belt, they are getting hard to find.
