I am installing a remote start on my 08 6.4. The only wire I can't find is the glow plug wire. I need the one that feeds the light on the dash. When I hook into it, it will tell my RS that it's ok to start the truck. Anyone know where I can find this wire? Under the dash or under the hood I don't care. If someone know the polarity of that wire that would be a bonus.
Thanks
I dont think there is such thing, what you need is a timer delay to start. Atleast thats how all the 6.0s are remote started. The older deisels had this wire, newer ones the light going off isnt the trigger and becuase the dash is all electronic there is no wire to tap. What kind of starter are you using. Mine is set with a short delay and have never had a starting problem, I am using a Astrostart on an 05 6.0. Some starters require an extra part number for this delay.
I use a viper alarm 5900 it has a time delay function on it. It gives it 15 sec before it will start the truck. I have never had any problems with it. I dont think there is a wire for the glow plugs, just a time delay.
The RS I am installing is an Omega RS-4LX. It does not have a delay built in. It has a sensing wire that senses when the light goes out. There has to be a wire to tap into. Something has to turn the dash light on then off. If it is a timer then there has to be a wire from the timer to turn the light on or off. Thats all I need.
Boulder, I am not *****ting you, there is NO wire. You must review your install instructions and use a time delay of between 15 and 18 seconds. The reason there is no wire is becuase the whole dash is a printed curcuit, there is no wire you can tap. You would have to go pre 1999 in the SDs I beleive to find one. I am not familiar with your particular RS however, I am quite sure there is either an optional timer device you can add or its built in and you just follow the instructions for a diesel. I know this is the way Astrostarts, Ford Gold and others are all done, so have a look through your instructions for this alternative install method or it might tell you about a secondary timer unit. Most newer RS have this built in though. All the RS is doing is turning the key to On, powering the glow plugs and heating grid, then hitting start in a pre determined time.

Go to Ford and get their install instructions for the Ford REmote start and alarm. There is a wire but it is not behind the gauges. As for the printed circuit, they started changing to a data cable in 2007 for everything including the head lights. You can no longer just tap into wires.
Ok. Thanks guys. Again my unit does not have a timer or delay setting. It only has a wire to sense when it goes out. So. I will either have to call Ford and find that wire jasfaa is talking about or install an accessory timer unit.
here is a wireing diagram that I found for the 2008. I dont know what the see direct fax is yet, but I will try to find out.

The stock alarm from Ford uses a timer unfortunately and there is no wire noted for the glow plug timer. I would say that you would need to find the relay for the glowbplugs and tie it into that. This would require a trip to your dealer though and their help in tracing the relay down for them. I know you can't tie into anything behind the console or radio unless someone makes an interface to the data cable like the radio and steering wheel control adapters. so much for my earlier optimizm.
Slightly off topic - does anyone know how to change the delay on the Ford RS system. My dealer had a Ford approved company install it and I received no paperwork. It has a 30 second delay in it now which is way more than enough. I would like to shorten that to 15 seconds if possible.
The manual for the ford remote start system states it is either on or off for 30 seconds. It does not look like there is a way to drop it down to less than this. It also looks like a pain in the rear to do.
Thanks guys. I ordered a 528T. Should be here soon. That will take care of the delay. On another note. The list of wires that texans posted might, might, be wrong. The reason I say that is Omega also told me that the tach wire was blue/white. Turns out it is the solid blue wire under the dash by the brake pedal. It is in the bundle of accessory wires that have pigtails and are wrapped around the main harness. Also using a DMM does not work for testing the tach wire. The wire will not show any change in voltage with RPM change. Suposedly it is done via frequency or something like that. In anycase I hooked up to the solid blue and my RS unit sensed the tach just fine. Hope that can help someone someday.
