ford tells me on my 1997 ranger that it normal for the a/c to cycle every 4-5 sec. when the heat is on. i do not beleive them. any advice? bwana

The a/c will operate in all modes except panel and floor. And only if outside air temp. is above 50 deg. I would however question the 4 to 5 sec. cycle. Seems two fast in my experience. Would check for possible low freon charge. The pressure cycling switch will open at 22 to 25 psi. and close at 39 to 47 psi. If it is cycling outside this range it could cause a fast cycling compressor.

I was curious and checked mine in heat position and defrost at 60 degrees outside temp. Cycles at around 12 to 15 seconds at idle, engine at full operating temp.
