Have you tried to pull any error codes that may be stored? If not go to fordfuelinjection.com for instructions on how to. You might also want to check your fuel pressure and you might also check around the engine for any vacuum leaks and possibly take the EGR valve off and clean it. Good luck.

No codes at all. Not even stored codes. Didn't take egr off.if egr was bad wouldn't it run bad thru out .

The egr could be opening prematurely, causing the hesitation.U could pull the vac line and plug it and see if better, or pull the egr and make a pop can gasket WITHOUT the two holes the gasses go thru and see if maybe its stuck open

Are you saying you got no codes at all or you got the 11 or 111 all clear codes? If you got no codes at all you have a processor problem, if you got an all clear you could have a bad TFI module or weak ignition coil.. among other things.

I don't know.I had a mechanic use the handheld scanner and he said its not showing any codes not even stored codes. But the check engine light came on when I had trouble with the fuel pump so it should show a stored code right??

Yeah that's a sign of a bad processor, and so is the fuel pump that won't shut off, is it still doing that? You should try pulling the codes yourself, ground the STI wire in the EEC test connector harness and turn the key to run and the check engine light should flash the codes. www.fordfuelinjection.com has pics of the EEC test harness and data on the codes.

My 91 $.9 Auto has been doing the same thing. Usualy upto 1500 RPMs, where it likes to run. I have been through all my emisions and EFI censors.

I am leaning toward fuel injectors or torque converter, but don't know how to verify either.

let me know if a new EGR fixes yours.

I have replaced complete EGR
reamed out first cat
replaced all censors
checked fuel pressure
and vaccum
codes are all clear

I read somewhere that the torque converter was a common problem with these trucks and described similar symptoms.

I had an EGR code and tried to clean it but broke a bolt so I replaced the whole assembly. reply back if the EGR fixes the problem.

I believe that if the electrical switch is disconected the light will come on, so to run w/no light and no egr you could remove the switch from the egr housing and let it float. My EGR was 3 seperate pieces electrical switch, valve body, and EGR exhaust tube.
