the 351w manifold is not a direct fit onto the 351m engine. there are a few companies who make universal 2bbl or 4bbl fuel injection kits, such as holley.
yeah I would like to stick to a carb but I would like to get better gas mileage. but I don't know how much better mileage the fuel injection kits would get over the carb, to justify going to fuel injection.
My 300 even has a 500 CFM 4-barrel carb and I can get about 18 on the highway. That's on stock jets and rods too; I'm sure I can squeeze more out of it.
If you wanna get real technical I've seen a thread about getting 30 MPG out of a Ford Explorer V-8 being accomplished on another forum a couple of years ago......
The trend these days, if you have the money, is to modernize old vehicles. The goal is dependability, and improved handling and safety. This is tougher with these old trucks, but EFI is way better than carbs if you don’t like to tinker. MPG improvement is just icing on the cake. When people start talking about making the money back on improvements, the argument falls flat on its face. Pouring money into these dinosaurs is not about investment, it’s about having fun owning and driving American iron! Go for it on the EFI.
