when i shut off the key on my 02 7.3, the motor keeps running...till the fog lights are turned on, not just the head lights, but the fog lights, wont kill any other way, if headlights are on high which keeps the fogs off, still keeps runniing, any ideas? dealer and my local mech are baffled
Welcome to FTE bigjohn. What happens when you leave the key in the on position and turn on the fog lights? What kind of aftermarket stuff has been added to the truck (alarm, remote start, etc.) Any other electrical goodies added to the truck? If you turn the key off, then try to shift it into gear and drive off, will it die then too?
If nothing's been added, I would start by pulling and checking the ignition switch. The fuel injectors won't fire without electrical current, so either the key switch is not working or it's been bypassed.
Welcome to the site. How long have you owned the truck? If it's new to you, it may have a turbo saver installed, or like Chris suggested, after market alarm system. Other than that, a bad key switch it the only other thing that comes to mind.
Ive owned the truck since new, thuck was wrecked badly 2 years ago, but problem just appeared few weeks ago, at first only sometimes, but now always, although if you leave it in the off position long enough sometimes it will kill after a while.
