Carb ?

Hi there,
I have a 78 with a mild 400 in it and am about to put a edlebrook aluminum intake and a holly street avenger 650 cfm. What is a good carb spacer I should get that will give me more power and not cost a fortune?

Is there a particular reason that you want to put a spacer? Spacers tend to take away low end power but adds some to your top end. The higher you go the more this becomes true. What exactly are you wanting?

I had heard they overall give better performance and fuel economy. The truck is mainly going to be a fun truck, so racing up and down the streets where I come from.

There are different spacers and they act diferently too. An open spacer will do what has been said it increases the plenum volume and that helps the top end. You can also get a 4 hole spacer, it will give the air/fuel charge more of a ram efect in the manifold. Gives the mixture time to settle alittle more after the butterflies to straiten out and flow thru the manifold thus giving better low and mid-range. Befor you drop the coin on one try this. Now you have to keep in mind this is for a very short term test not to be used very long at all. Get some 1X6 board use a gasket as template cut out the shape and drill the holes you can increase and decrease the height to so what helps and when it doesn't. Try to get the hole as smooth as possible to reduce fire hazzard. You can also compare the open to the 4 hole or even try a 2 slot configuration. If you try this just remember wood will soak up fuel and in a short time will become a fire risk. I have done this several time to fine tune the hieght on a spacer then when I bought one I got what I need the first time. Hope this helps.
