Windshield buffing?

I've been told before that you can take a buffer with the right compound and buff out scratches and pits in a windshield. Is this true? What do you use if it is? Mine's not terrible but it could definitely use some help and my 03 could too. If this is not true is there anything else that can be used to get the same result? Thanks.

I would check the price for the guy in the van to put a new windshield in. You might be surprised how cheap it is, and he does it in your driveway. It's some sort of national chain, look in the yellow pages.

The buffing stuff is usually used by people with old old cars where they can't easily get a windshields, and have lots of time on their hands. And it will not take out deep pitting and deep scratches.

I agree with Franklin here.

If you can feel the pits or scratches with your fingernail, then it's not worth the bother.

I have used Jeweler's Rouge to remove water spots etc, and it will also remove very minor scratches. It can also distort the glass if used too much or the scratch is deep.

New glass is easily found for our trucks so that is the best option.
