Spent some time under the old ford this weekend trying to identify some loose wires and secure them, while laying under the truck I noticed my trac bar bushing are deteiorated almost gone. Is this something I can do my self, it looks pretty simple, no alignment needed or anything professional. Are the bushings very expensive ? What does this trac bar actually do ? Could it cause a tire (pass side) to wear on the outside edge severe ?
not sure about the rest to he questions but... the bushings are faily easy to do by your self if you have the tools. IE... impact gun and air if your are talking about the front sway bar and IF i remember right they are fairly decently priced. its been a few years and auto zone or advanced auto had them
no alignment, they are cheap, they are pretty easy to change. The keep the axle centered under the truck, with bad bushings there will be alot of steering slop. Your tire wear is likely the toe in, not related. Remove your track bar an take it outside. Get out the propane torch, just burn the rubber on the bushings until the bushing falls out. there are cleaner ways to do this but this is minimal effort, just my style. you should be able to push the new bushings right in, by hand or with a little help.
If your bushings are badly deteriorated and you don't notice a vast improvement when done than go back under there and look for loose tie rod ends and such. also be sure to get the lower track bar mount super tight.
