302 and 351W Block

Is the 302 and 351W Block the same width??

i believe the 351w is an inch or an inch and a half wider

It's probably closer to 3" wider.

Why is the 351 block 3" wider? The deck height is only raised an inch or a half inch. Even if the deck height were raised an inch, it is at a forty-five degree angle, so 1 inch up would only move the head out a half inch on each side, adding one inch to the width at the outer corners of the block deck.

Is there some other part of the block that protrudes out adding the other two inches?

Ford Racing Catalogue sez 302=18-3/4 wide, 351= 21 inches wide. Does not say if that is at widest point of deck or with heads mounted.

Thanks for the info. The main part I am worried about is at the motor mounts area.

The block mounts into position exactly the same. It is the overall width that we have been discussing.

I guess I should have stated my orginal question as, I know the motor mounts are the same. Now when I go to bolt it in where a 302 was will I need to move the mounts/perches on the frame? Is it wider there as well?
