Need to replace a/c compressor on my 01 Expedition EB with 5.4 liter engine. I purchased rebuilt unit from local auto parts store. Dove into project today and it appears I will need to remove engine fan assembly in order to physically get failed unit out (and get replacement unit installed). I checked Alldata Pro for step by step instructions but found nothing.
For anyone out there that has done this previously - some questions:
1. Is it possible to make switch without removing fan? Is it possible to drop unit out thru bottom after refig lines are disonnected?
2. If fan removal is required, does Ford have a special tool (that hopefully could be rented from auto parts store) to grasp/hold belt pulley so fan shaft can be removed from output of water pump?
