I have a 2004 F-450 dump truck and need to rebuild/replace the shock mount on the drivers side axle. One of my employees got the truck stuck at the local gravel yard and when they pulled him out something hit the shock mount and crushed it against the axle. Anyone know what my options are to replace it, or do i have to try and rebuild the current one.
Thanks Peter
It depends on if you can straighten it out or not. If not and you have the tools go to a welding shop and get a piece of metal the correct thickness and cut out new pieces and weld them on. Paint it after it cools and reattach your shock. If you don't have the equipment you'll probably have to take it into a shop. Any rear end or suspension shop can do this for you. I know they can weld on rear ends, but there may or may not be a need to do it a certain way to prevent too much heat going into the axle housing.
I thought on the DRW trucks they were welded on. I could very well be wrong though. (I'm in the same boat as your sig) It's been a few years since I was last under one. If they are just bolt on like our srw trucks, then it's a easy fix.
it is the rear of an 450 dump dually, not sure what dana axle but it has square tubes and the shock mount is welded on. ford said they could only sell me a empty axle case for around $3,000. So looks like i am going to pull the axle out tomorrow after i move my equipment off a job site and then repair/rebuild it.
I would get a spring and axle shop to build and weld new ones, with stronger gussets. Take it all apart and have them do it, might as well do both sides while you are at it.
